Students living in Northern Ireland
If you live in Northern Ireland it is particularly important that you speak to your local adviser at a very early stage. The expectation is that your needs will be fully met through inclusion in mainstream education.
Education and Library Boards do recognise that some young people with special educational needs need to stay in education beyond the age of 16, in which case they remain responsible for the provision of education up until the end of the term in which you turn 19.
Your Board may agree to a placement outside Northern Ireland if they are satisfied that your best interests require this to happen, and if they believe that it is compatible with the efficient use of resources.
If the Board agrees to the placement and is satisfied that the College specialises in meeting special educational needs it must then meet the costs of the placement and reasonable travelling expenses.
