OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Certificate (Equivalent to 0.5 A Level)
Duration of programme
You should have 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C (grade 4) or above or a Business or related qualification at Level 2, plus a desire to learn more about the Business world and working in it.
The certificate is an Applied General qualification which means it is equivalent to half an A Level. The course will give you an introduction to business and can support other vocational and academic qualifications.
You will study 1 mandatory unit:
- The Business Environment
alongside two other units, to be determined.
Students will learn about working in an organisation’s business function, such as finance, marketing, sales, legal, IT support, human resources, administration, logistics, and operations.
A variety of methods are used including class room discussion, explanation, role play, individual and group work exercises, question and answer sessions, research, guest speakers and visits
Reports and plans, presentations, witness statements, role play, calculations. All student work goes into a portfolio of evidence – there are no exams or external tests
Course Combination Suggestions
BTEC Level 3 IT, AS & A Level Psychology, plus students with an interest in self-employment could add modules to their main course(s)
Every individual timetable includes Independent Living Skills, Orientation & Mobility, IT skills and development along with the options to learn braille and play sport
Course Enrichment Opportunities
Day trips to businesses, including a business survey trip. Guest speakers tell students about their business or business function and how it operates. Young Enterprise undertaken for one year alongside the course provides competitive experience
Many students go onto Higher Education to complete degrees with a business and/or management element. Other students go directly into employment or self-employment
Employment routes may include: Finance Officer, Equalities and Diversity Manager, HR Manager, Director of own company. There are many potential employment opportunity areas. The qualification is deliberately broad based for learners aged 16 to 25
