Media Studies
Qualification Level
AS Level and A Level (Level 3). During your Pre-Entry Assessment we will work with you to establish the best range of courses and levels to help you achieve your goals

1 year for AS Level
2 years for A Level
Entry Requirements
An interest in the Media industry is essential plus 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above; these must include Mathematics and English Language
Course Information
Looking at everything from TV to Twitter, you will learn about the institutions behind the media and the role media has in educating us about the world and shaping our opinions towards it
The course will develop your analytical, critical and communication skills by analysing a range of media products, helping you to learn new production skills through coursework where you can produce media for radio, film, print and the web. You will also explore the music industry to discover how digital technology is changing the way media products are produced and distributed, and how we can access them
Teaching Methods
Students are taught in small groups. Students undertake lesson preparation tasks as well as homework and exam practice
Assessment Methods
A portfolio of work will be internally marked and externally verified. A final exam will be taken for assessment
Course Combination Suggestions
Typical academic combinations are English, Psychology, and Sociology. Vocational combinations include Business and IT
A range of other combinations are possible. We are happy to advise on subject combinations for proposed university courses
Every individual timetable includes Independent Living Skills, Orientation & Mobility, IT skills and development along with the options to learn braille and play sport

Relevant to any career, this course specifically supports pathways into the arts, media, marketing, radio, the music industry, teaching or film
After A Level, most people go on to Higher Education. Employment and apprenticeships are other possibilities
Work Based Learning
Students collaborate with other departments, including project work on theatre, radio and video productions in the Chapel arts centre
Every student does some part-time work experience through the year and takes part in a dedicated week of work experience
