Get Workplace Ready - application form


  • When: A self-led three-month course from 28 October 2024 to 30 January 2025.
  • Who: Young people with a vision impairment aged 18-29 who are not in education, employment or training and looking to enter the workplace.
  • Location: A five-day residential at the Royal National College for the Blind, Hereford from 28 October to 2 November followed by self study at home.
  • Cost: Free.
  • Equipment: Use of own laptop and accessible tech.

    Get workplace ready. Join us on a fully funded self-led employability programme that specifically addresses the challenges faced by young adults with a vision impairment.

    Funded by Thomas Pocklington Trust, this supportive and flexible three-month programme will help you navigate the world of work through a blend of in-person small group coaching and accessible online learning. Working at your own pace, you will develop a wealth of practical skills to help you take the right steps towards achieving success in the workplace.

    We will first come together on a five-day residential to explore how you can apply your interests and strengths to make a lasting impact. You will receive ongoing remote support over the following three months from our team of VI experienced professionals, who will get you one step closer to your dream job.
    We reserve the right to contact participants three and six months after the completion of the course.


    You must be: 

  • Visually impaired 
  • Actively looking for employment
  • Not in employment, education or training
  • At least 18 years old on 30 October 2024
  • Aged 29 or under on 30 January 2025
  • Physically, socially and emotionally able to take part independently in a group setting with peers
         of a similar age
  • Able to communicate your needs independently
  • Able to maintain your own personal hygiene
  • Able to take medication independently (if applicable)

    TAVIP (the Technology Association of Visually Impaired People) helps young adults with sight loss to get the most out of technology by providing a range of information, advice and support. As part of the Get Workplace Ready course, TAVIP have generously offered each participant a bespoke interview. The interview is designed to help you overcome any challenges you may be facing with technology and can take place before you join the course, during the course or even after it has finished. They want to make sure you get the most out of this course and remove any technology barriers that may be preventing you from achieving your ambitions.
