Living in Hereford
The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) is based in the city of Hereford, in the West Midlands, 15 miles from the border with Wales. We are easily reached by train and car, approximately one hour’s drive from Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol.

RNC has a lot to offer, but if you’re keen to spread your wings and explore the rest of Hereford, then there are plenty of new things for you to discover and experience. Hereford city centre is a short bus or taxi ride away from campus, or a 25 minute walk.
If you are just starting to develop your independence, then Hereford is a perfect place to build up your confidence. Hereford has been home to RNC for more than 35 years so many local people, taxi drivers, shop assistants and leisure staff have had visual impairment awareness training and will know they can support you should you require assistance.
The Courtyard is just a 20 minute walk from campus and is a central venue for live comedy, bands, theatre productions, pantomimes and films
The Odeon is Hereford’s brand new six screen cinema showing the latest box office hits and is situated within the Old Market complex
Situated next to the railway station, Hereford’s bowling centre is just a 15 minute walk from campus

Food and Drink
Hereford is famous for its locally produced food and drink. The county is renowned for Herefordshire beef, local cider, real ale and organic fruit and vegetables
