David left RNC in 2015.
RNC student David has been selected to represent the GB Mens Goalball squad in international competition. On Friday 7 November 2014 he made his first ever speech, at the opening of the UK’s first Sports Academy specifically for people with visual impairments, you can read his speech below;
Hi I am David, I am a second year student at RNC and I am studying a Level 3 Personal Training qualification alongside being a full sports academy member which unfortunately for the coaches means I spend nine hours a week with them!
Being able to play Goalball was one of the many things that attracted me to RNC and the fact that they have developed a Sports Academy with Goalball being one of the main sports is a dream come true. I always knew that RNC would help me to develop and provide more opportunities for myself, but I can honestly say that it is a once in a life time chance that I have been given. I know that my chances of success in the future are far greater now that I am a member of this academy and being able to train alongside the Great Britain squad has boosted my ability so much so I have competed in and won an International youth tournament and been picked to attend an International tournament in Madrid this December with the senior squad. It is not just me; this is being proven each year with more success stories and learners from RNC progressing at the elite level in a range of individual and team sports.
It is also worth mentioning, I believe what is equally as important and impressive is how this academy is encouraging learners to develop in other ways. During my short time on the academy I have seen huge Improvements in learners, developing their social skills and confidence in particular which are great skills to have especially if you are visually impaired. In my opinion the RNC is the best place to identify and help support young learners with a visual impairment and help them reach their full potential whatever that might be.
The academy provides me with a very professional and competitive environment. We all have a huge amount of fun in what do and learn and develop as athletes. The goal for me now and one that I am confident I can achieve is to work hard setting an example and the bar high to inspire others who get the opportunity to join this academy and be the best we can be.
