RNC would like to congratulate Jon Pugh on his award as Disability Coach of the Year 2014. Jon received the honour at the FA’s St George’s Park event on Thursday 4 December.

Jon Pugh recently left RNC as Sports Academy Coach to take on the role of England Blind Football Team head coach full time. His knowledge and experience as both a coach and a player (goalkeeper) have enabled the England squad to remain unbeaten during his tenure.

Former RNC student and current England team member, Dan English, once said in an interview: “My biggest sporting inspiration is Jon Pugh … he has helped me get to where I am today.”

“To turn a team around from finishing last place in the European Championships 2013 to going ten games unbeaten, along with beating the European champions twice and drawing with the World and Paralympic champions, is quite extraordinary,” said England captain, Keryn Seal upon hearing the good news. “The players have so much to thank Jon Pugh for. This is the best run of games I have been involved in in my ten year international career and it is without doubt down to the hard work and dedication put in by our coach. His knowledge of the blind game and attention to detail is without question.”

Keryn continued, “He gives us so much belief in our own abilities, as individuals and as a team. It is a mark of the man that he won’t be over excited by receiving an individual award, but, for me, he fully deserves it and it recognises how much of an impact he has had on the England Blind team since taking over.”

Head of FA Learning and founder of the awards, Jamie Houchen, said at the prestigious ceremony: “Coaching is one of the game’s great untold stories and we are committed to ensuring people hear about it.”
