Farewell to the class of 2016/2017

Sports Academy students are gathered in a group with grass and trees in the background, the boys are wearing suits, tuxedos and the girls are wearing elegant dresses. Back row left to right – Leon, Ibz, Tom, Calum, Anes, Liam and Lois. Middle row left to right – Conna, Karla, Tiri, Avram, Dave and Mo. Front row kneeling left to right – Ciaron, Mike and Joe.

This week marks the end of the academic year at RNC (Royal National College for the Blind) and to celebrate we held our annual prom. The theme was film and television stars so whilst we had some interesting characters, most opted for traditional prom dress. We would like to give a special mention to the wonderful ladies at The Body Shop who supported lots of our girls with their hair and make-up.

Laura and Calum are standing beside each other on stage, wearing sashes which say ‘Prom King’ and ‘Prom Queen’ on them.

We were pleased to announce the awards on the night;

  • Best dressed male – Ibz Iqbal
  • Best dressed female – Tamzin Bush
  • Life and soul of the party – Chad Fallows

The student vote for prom king and queen went to;

  • Prom king – Calum Briars
  • Prom queen – Laura Hill

Here is a message from our Principal, Mark Fisher;

“Prom is always very bittersweet, while it is always a great occasion for our students to get dressed up and celebrate with their friends it also marks the end of the RNC journey for some. Today we have said goodbye to students who have been with us for one, two and three years and in that time we have seen them develop and grow into strong, confident and independent young people. From all the staff at RNC, we wish all of those leaving us the best of luck in your future. For the returning students, we wish you a happy summer and look forward to welcoming you back, along with our new students in September!”
