Live, love and laugh

Some of the performing arts students are gathered on stage in the Chapel studio during a singing rehearsal for a group song – they are all standing together singing into a microphone in the middle of the stage. Left to right – Mikey, Maisy, Callum, Lorren, Emily and Zizi. In the background, behind Mikey there is a keyboard and in the background behind Zizi there is a guitar standing up against the wall.

This Thursday, 17 March we will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a special singing performance. For the first time our Performing Arts students will be taking to the stage whilst being streamed live on the internet, with the support of the Audio Media Production students who are literally running the show! The event will be held in the performance studio at the Chapel; our arts centre at RNC (Royal National College for the Blind)

Our Chapel arts centre has been developed as a real work-based learning opportunity for the arts and media students to give them practical experience of what life is like working in the media industry. Cara Tivey, Performing Arts teacher, says “This is a pressurised performance because it is going out on the internet so it will require all the students to act professionally and support each other. Communication is key to the event working and so far, in rehearsals, things have run very smoothly.”

On the set list, there a mixture of songs from musical theatre to indie to Europop and even some dubstep! After the rehearsals, Cara went on to say “All the students are nervous and so am I! I think this is healthy as it means the adrenaline flows and all the performances go up a notch!” The line-up features a song from Erin Boyce, winner of the 2015 Xmas Factor at RNC. You can view her winner’s performance video below to watch her stunning version of Keane’s ‘Somewhere only we know’;

Make sure you save this link to the live stream and tune in from 7:30pm this Thursday 17 March.
