RNC live on Cisco television!
Today RNC student Jake Holt and RNC teacher Grahame Allen joined Cisco’s Neil Smith for a global webinar to discuss what it’s like to be part of Europe’s first Cisco Networking Academy specifically for people with visual impairment.
Cisco’s famous 15 minute pit stops are live webinars which interview different employees around the world on their experiences of Inclusion and Collaboration. Neil Smith has had a long standing relationship with The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC), based in Hereford and was really happy to be a part of the collaboration. “It started off with us looking at placements for RNC IT students and has developed into a full CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) qualification.”
Grahame Allen, Teacher in Charge, has been working at RNC for nearly 30 years and said “The RNC Cisco Academy was something I thought would challenge me and it has greatly, but it’s really enjoyable. Having a CCNA qualification will open so many doors as it’s difficult for our students having to compete with their sighted peers in trying to find jobs” explained Grahame.
Jake Holt is one of only 5 students to be part of Europe’s first Cisco Networking Academy for people with visual impairment. “The fact that I could possibly work for Cisco makes me think ‘wow’, I’ve always wanted to do that and now my dreams could become a reality.”
At the end of the interviews with Grahame and Jake, Neil Smith put out a plea to the 500-600 live viewers of the webinar. “If there are any Cisco colleagues or partners who can offer placements for the RNC Cisco students who will be graduating this summer with CCNA qualifications then please do get in touch.” The webinar goes live globally and remains on Cisco television for Cisco colleagues around the world to watch on catch up.
