David is a 17 year old student at the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC), studying a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness, Maths and IT. He is also a member of the RNC Sports Academy. In July 2014 David, along with four other young people from across the country, was selected to take part in the Youth Development Camp alongside players from Finland, Germany and South Korea.

David said “Finland was fantastic, I learnt so much and got to see some international games”. As well as watching the IBSA Goalball World Championships David also took part in coaching sessions with Janice Dawson, former Canadian Women’s Coach!

David started as a student at RNC in September 2013 and when he found Goalball he never looked back. RNC Sports Academy Teacher and GB Women’s Goalball Coach Aaron Ford said “Since David started playing Goalball I can really see how his confidence has grown, he’s a great team player and gets on so well with his team mates.”

David quickly developed from a novice to intermediate Goalball player, competing in the Wolverhampton Intermediate South and Cambridge Intermediate South tournaments, winning both competitions with RNC and earning the title of top goal scorer.

As a student in the RNC Sports Academy David plays Goalball for up to eight hours every week, Aaron Ford says “David has so much potential, he’s a talented Goalball player who is so committed and always keen to train.  We are very proud of him and look forward to watching him continue to grow in the future.”
