Civic Reception Held for RNC's Blind Footballers
At the invitation of The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Hereford, Paul Stevens, RNC's Blind Footballers attended a Civic Reception at Hereford Town Hall on Thursday 9 September.
This was to honour the team who, in July, had won the FA Disability Cup in a thrilling final at St George's Park against Merseyside Blind & VI FC. The game was televised on
BT Sport
and the nation was able to tune in to this thrilling final which culminated in a penalty shoot out, with RNC Hereford claiming victory.
The team was welcomed on the steps of Hereford Town Hall by the Mayor, with full pomp and ceremony, before being applauded through the grand entrance hall by City Councillors as they made their way into the Mayor's Parlour.
The Mayor congratulated the players on their Cup success and said:
'The City Council would like to present you with a City Council shield as RNC is such a huge part of the community in Hereford, and has been for many years, and we really appreciate you representing, not only the College, but the City and congratulations to all of you on your achievement.'
After shields were presented, the team was taken into the assembly hall for another photocall followed by refreshments and lunch with the Mayor and some of the City Councillors.
The team was really thrilled to be at the Reception and to be recognised for their achievements. Captain, Owen Bainbridge, gave a short speech of thanks on behalf of the team and thanked the people of Hereford for being so welcoming to the blind and vision impaired community.
