Nervous about starting College? Student ambassadors are here to help.

Starting anything new can be a daunting and difficult experience. Moving away from home to a new town, whilst starting a new course can result in lots of questions.

Will I fit in? Am I going to make any friends? How will I know where to go? Will there be anyone to help me if something goes wrong?

That’s where RNC student ambassadors come in. Having someone who has been there and knows exactly what you are going through can really help, with many ambassadors having specialist personal experience skills.

Student ambassadors are trained to deal with a range of issues that they may encounter which includes things like:

  • safeguarding
  • exam stress
  • homesickness
  • finding new friends
  • engaging with other students

and much, much more to ensure you settle in as quickly as possible.

Other student ambassador duties

  • attend a short training programme to prepare for the role
  • help out at the New Student Conference
  • meet and greet new students over the arrival week
  • help plan Induction Week
  • help with induction sessions, supporting staff and students
  • continue to support students into the first year of their studies
  • refer student mentees with particular issues to an appropriate member of staff
  • represent the College in a positive manner

If you choose to become a student ambassador, apart from feeling good about helping others, it will also provide a great opportunity to gain valuable transferable and employability skills.

Katie/Kara

Heya, my name is Katie/Kara and I am a second year student from Hereford. I am currently studying BTEC Level 1 Art and Design, Braille, Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. I also support the Art Department during Learning and Leisure.

I am always happy to help new and current students such as, with mobility by guiding students around, describing objects and images as well as if anyone wants to come up for a general chat then I am more than happy to.

Ella

Hi, I’m Ella and I’m 19 and from Walsall which is in the West Midlands. I’m starting my second year at RNC this year and I’m studying OCR Level 3 Business, Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics, and Braille.

I enjoy baking and reading fiction books like Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. I like watching comedy and romance films and TV series on Netflix like Stranger Things, Gossip Girl and Emily in Paris. I like watching and attending football matches and I support Manchester City women and England (the Lionesses) women’s football teams.

I enjoy spending time with my friends, hanging out in the student bar and I like listening to music like pop and rock music and I’m a big Taylor Swift fan. I enjoy singing and I’m a part of RNC’s Wellbeing Choir. I enjoy doing sports and I go to the student gym often and my blind football skills have developed since at RNC and I played my first game in the National Blind Football League this year as part of RNC’s Championship team.

I’m a kind and friendly person and I always like helping people if it’s guiding students around the College campus or helping students if they need help with their work, I’m a good listener and I will listen to everyone’s opinions.

Reisha

My name is Reisha; I am from South Wales. I am 19 and this is my third year at the College.

I am interested in baking, socialising, exercising and blind football. I don’t usually go to the bar but I don’t mind socialising.

I am confident with IT, Braille, and Mobility. If anyone needs help, I am more than happy to assist.

If anyone has any questions, I am more than happy to answer them if I know the answer but if not, I will point you in the direction of someone who does.

Elliot

My name is Elliot and I’m a second year at RNC. I love playing partially sighted futsal and gaming. I also have a big passion for Pre Hospital Medical Care.

I have a dog called Raisin – he’s a German Shepherd Golden Retriever mix.

If you want to find me I’m probably with Noah, Leanne’s guide dog.

Anyways, I’m always happy to help where I can.

I am 17 years old. I am in my second year at RNC. I am currently studying Mathematics A Level and OCR Level 3 Business Extended Certificate. My main interests are playing sport, following disability sport, and horses.

I love helping anyone so if you need a hand just ask and I will be happy to help.

Hi, I’m Oscar. I’m 18 years old and I’m a second year student studying Audio Media Production.

I have a passion for music and film and I really enjoy taking long walks. I’m a huge people person and I’m easy to talk to, so if you have a concern or worry, please do not hesitate to find me. Whatever the trouble might be, I’m always up for a chat, walk or just a hang out.

Vasilisa

Hi! My name is Vasilisa. My hobbies are listening to music, watching films, listening to audio books, and making bracelets from loom bands.

At College I like going to the bar and socialising with other people, doing crafts, helping other students, going on different activities and going out with my friends at the weekend.

Additionally I like cooking and I can support new students with the process.

In my free time I like to learn new languages because I am from the Ukraine and I know four languages already.

I am ready to support and I am willing to help new students at any time!
