RNC
needs YOU!
Parent ambassadors
Why do we need parent ambassadors?
Many young people with a visual impairment struggle to find information on the full range of choices available to them when they leave school. They are not told about the specialist colleges and, if they find out about us in other ways, barriers are often put in their way. This varies from being told that they must attend a college in their home area to being openly denied funding. It means young people all over the country continue to miss out on the chance to attend RNC and to receive the specialist support they need to unlock their potential.
What does being a parent ambassador involve?
The level of involvement is completely up to you. It may be as simple as telling other parents about the College. It may be supporting us on social media or letting your local paper know about the experiences your own child is having at RNC. We regularly travel around the country attending exhibitions and events and if we are in your area you may be willing to join us for a few hours to chat to parents and young people considering their next steps.
Anything that you can do to spread the word about RNC will give more families a real choice when they are making crucial decisions about the future.
Here are six ways you can help:
Using your personal network
Do you or your child attend groups and clubs where you could talk formally or informally to other visually impaired young people or their parents about RNC?
Using social media
Sharing, tagging and liking the College's posts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or Twitter will help spread the word.
Spreading the news
Talk to your local newspaper about the experiences your child is having at RNC. We can help with content.
Giving a talk in your local school
Would you and your child like to do a talk at your old school to other students or to teachers?
Talking to other parents
Reaching out to prospective parents and answering any questions they might have drawing upon your own experiences.
Distributing flyers
Could you distribute RNC material and our prospectus to organisations and charities in your area that may benefit from our information?
