School of Rock!
Some of the Audio Media Production staff and students had a rare visit to the legendary Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire on 2 May.
Lisa the daughter of one of the studio's co-founders, along with Tim, one of the longstanding engineers, gave the tour, telling first hand tales of what it was like to be around some of the most popular bands in the world, including Queen, Oasis, Coldplay and the Manic Street Preachers.
Students were able to immerse themselves into the studio experience, playing some of the instruments and exploring some of the equipment through touch, whilst sensing some of the nuances that those with sight might not appreciate.
The Studios are very much as they were back in the 1970s with a few upgrades to the equipment. However, most artists record or rehearse there for its unique sound experience which can't be replicated anywhere else. The fact that the studios are residential and that musicians can access the studios anytime, day or night, is another unique selling point.
Our evening visit just flew by and we're hugely grateful to Lisa and Tim for giving us a very special insight into their lives as part of these world famous studios, and we can't wait for a return visit. For more photos from the trip click
