Rowing Talent Identification
Rob Cree, a Talent Performance Coach, who works for British Rowing, recently visited the College to talent spot potential new B1, B2 and B3 classification rowers for the British Paralympic rowing team.
Rob classes himself as the ‘first rung on the ladder’ for anyone who might want to get involved in rowing who has the drive and passion for competing at the highest level.
Many RNC students took up the opportunity to try out for Rob. He gave everyone some expert coaching on how to row properly and there was some healthy competition amongst students on the rowing machines as they were challenged to see how far they could row in one minute.
The Paralympic rowing programme can be started anywhere where there is access to a rowing machine. It’s a 12-week starter programme coached remotely. Potential rowers are asked to send in videos of themselves training (filmed side on) along with their data for Rob to assess and coach.
There was definitely some great potential within our student body and with Rob’s wealth of experience and knowledge behind them, we may even see one or two of them on the water in the future.
Thanks to Rob for joining our crew for the afternoon! Your passion and dedication to the sport was evident and our students were very grateful to have had the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating sport.
