Totally tactile trip
Students from the BTEC Level 1 in Vocational Skills took part in an inspiring visit to Nature in Art in Gloucester to explore the new Totally Tactile exhibition at the start of October.
All of the students on the trip study Art as one of their chosen three vocational subjects, and this visit offered a unique opportunity to experience and interact with art in inclusive and imaginative ways.
Totally Tactile
is a fully tactile exhibition where visitors are invited to get up close and personal with every piece. From wood to metal, from realistic animals to abstract interpretations, the exhibition encourages visitors to explore artwork through touch and reflection. A mix of artworks from the main collection, the reference library, and other pieces kindly lent for the occasion creates a rich and varied experience for all.
Our group received a wonderfully warm welcome from the Nature in Art team, who encouraged students to engage with the artworks and take their time exploring.
During the visit, students also had the chance to drop in and try a bit of printing with the artist-in-residence, experimenting with textures and techniques to make their own prints.
They finished the day by exploring the sculpture garden, discovering and interacting with the outdoor artworks..
For three students - Molls, Kai and Kara - this trip was especially valuable. They are currently working towards the
Planning and Marketing an Exhibition
unit, and spent the day gathering inspiration and recording their peers’ responses to inform the planning of their own exhibition later this year.
The visit was a huge success, sparking creative ideas and giving students the chance to experience art in a way that was inclusive, sensory, and memorable.
Accompanying the students on the trip were Mel their Art Teacher, Debs (Teacher in Charge of BTEC Level 1 Vocational), Cherith (Teacher in Charge of Functional Skills) and Sam (Wellbeing Staff), who all supported students throughout the day and helped make the trip such a positive experience.
