Acoustic Shooting Demonstration
On Wednesday 29 September, the College welcomed Charlie Blow from the National Small-bore Rifle Association (NSRA). Charlie and his assistant gave a demonstration of acoustic shooting.
As a board member of the NSRA, Charlie is responsible for the
Disabled Shooting Project
which includes a programme for the blind and visually impaired,
It was a popular event with over 25 students attending the demonstration and having a go themselves. RNC students enjoy a wide range of sport on campus, so acoustic shooting was met with real enthusiasm.
The sight on the rifle is an acoustic sight which picks up the LED light being shone on the target 10 metres away. The sight transmits a warbling sound into the marksman's headphones. The higher the pitch, the closer to the centre of the target. A lot of concentration and a lot of skill is required. More information on target shooting can be found on the
British Blind Sport
website.
Acousting shooting will be on display at the IBSA World Games next year and it is hoped it will be an exhibition sport at the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.
Huge thanks to Charlie and his assistant for the demonstration and, given the interest, we hope some of our students will take up this precision sport.
