Researching the experiences of domestic abuse for blind and partially sighted people
Disabled women are twice as likely to experience domestic abuse as non-disabled women.
SafeLives
has partnered with the
Vision Foundation
to explore the extent and impact of domestic abuse on victims who are blind or partially sighted.
The study will explore prevalence of domestic abuse amongst people who are blind or partially sighted, identify barriers to accessing support, review the provision of specialist services, and explore any issues relating to intersectionality.
The findings of this vital research will improve understanding of the experience of victims/survivors of domestic abuse who are blind or partially sighted, to inform the development of more effective, responsive, and equitable support.
SafeLives is keen to hear from any victims or survivors of domestic abuse who are blind or partially sighted, and from organisations that work with this community, to gather evidence to inform their research.
They will be carrying out interviews and focus groups in January to find out more about the experiences of blind and partially sighted people who have experienced abuse, any support they received and any barriers they may have faced when trying to access support.
The interviews and focus groups will last for around an hour and all participants will receive £25 for supporting the research.
All information received through interviews and focus groups will be anonymised in all public reports, and any identifying information will only be available to researchers working on the project.
If you are interested in being involved in an interview or focus group, please complete a short survey on your availability as well as your accessibility and safeguarding needs
