Three cheers for 25 years!
Another magnificent milestone was celebrated this month as Sandra Lauder marked 25 years as a volunteer at RNC.
Sandra first became involved with the College after taking early retirement from Aylestone School, Hereford, where she was Head of Modern Languages for many years.
Sandra performs a variety of roles within the Modern Languages Department, which include classroom support and helping students to develop their language skills but she also gives classroom support and one-to-one support across a range of academic subjects and helps out with invigilation and acts as a scribe during examinations.
Sandra was asked what motivated her to continue volunteering. She said:
'Basically because I enjoy it, you get so much more out of the students than you give, and it's kept my hand in with teaching. I've met some extraordinary people with all kinds of disabilities which they've overcome. The students have been an absolute inspiration and the staff have always been welcoming, it's just part of my life now.'
During conversation, Sandra quipped:
'I will have to retire eventually, I'm not going to go on as long as the Queen. It's been an absolute pleasure and I'll keep going for a bit yet!'
Sandra was presented with a card, flowers and chocolates by Director of Learning and Curriculum, Nicola Smith, who said:
'We are absolutely delighted to present Sandra with this small token of our appreciation, to thank her for her dedication and commitment to her volunteering role. We really can't thank Sandra enough for her support.'
Sandra works closely with Claire Lewin, Student Progression and Teaching Quality Lead, who added:
'Sandra is so very much appreciated. I know I can always rely on her and she will always take a no fuss approach to supporting our students in everything we ask of her.'
A huge thank you to Sandra from staff and students, past and present, and we are sure that many students in the future will enjoy the benefit of her support, experience and knowledge.
