What does the course involve?

The content and length of your programme will be agreed on an individual basis. Whether it’s washing your clothes, preparing a meal, withdrawing cash or doing a supermarket shop, these are all skills that you will require in your life after RNC. The ILS programme is specifically tailored to suit you and meet your objectives. We provide training and strategies using helpful products that can aid you to accomplish a wide range of everyday tasks. We provide information and advice about suitable appliances and equipment and general organisation in your household.

Teaching methods

ILS training aims to give you the skills and confidence to live independently. You will have regular one-to-one ILS sessions on a range of skills you will need in your daily life. We help you develop your skills and confidence to reach your full potential.  

Requirements

During your Pre-Entry Assessment we will work with you to identify the areas you would like to improve upon or build confidence in, offered through a range of training methods and at a level that will allow you to achieve your goals.

Please bring any personal items that will make your transition easier, especially those you use regularly in your home. This might include your own bedding, and portable appliances like a one-cup machine or air fryer. While these items are provided in halls, they may differ from the ones you are used to.

Assessment methods

As your individual objectives will be unique to you, you will have the opportunity to practice your skills until you feel safe and confident to move onto the next step.

Duration

The duration of the programme is entirely based on the progression and objectives of you, as an individual student.  

Where will it take me?

Your ILS programme will enable you to enhance your independence while you are at RNC. The programme will then focus on developing strategies and plans that will provide you with skills that you can use throughout your life beyond RNC.
